  • Best Tips On Installing Luxury Vinyl Flooring

Luxury vinyl flooring is fairly maintenance-free and easy to install at its price point. However, this doesn't mean you are free to do whatever you want with it. There are still some ground rules that should be adhered to.

    Preparation

Don't get ahead of yourself if you don't know what specific needs of your project, even when it is just a small area. If you don't know much about vinyl flooring and online researching doesn't help much, you can always turn to a professional for advice.

Ask a retailer or contractor if they can help you with it. Don't forget to ask about potential issues you may run into during the installation, including the best mop for Vinyl plank floors  so you can maintain their look.

Prepare yourself with basic knowledge of your own house. Is the floor you plan to install vinyl planks or tiles a bare subfloor? Or do you actually have an existing wood or tile floor? Is there a pitch or slank to it?

These questions are important as they will help you get the best vinyl flooring. For instance, not every product can be applied over an existing floor or to a subfloor. It may need padded support from underlayment layers. If you aren't aware of any of this, your installation won't go smoothly or may even not be possible at all.

Go for luxury vinyl tiles or planks over a flat and level supporting surface whenever possible. Uneven edges, cracks, and bumps are your worst enemies. They can make installation more difficult as well as add more stress to the vinyl during its lifespan. As a result, your floor may break much sooner than it should. Even the  best mop for Vinyl floors can’t prevent that.

Don't pick wide planks if you have a slanted floor. Otherwise, the vinyl wouldn't accommodate the grade.

Carefully measure your floor in detail before buying the flooring. Take stairs and walls into consideration as they can interrupt the shape of your flooring. Don't forget to spend on some extra tiles or planks as some of them may get damaged during installation. You can also use them later for future repairs.

    Installation Tips

Even if you are comfortable with DIY household projects, don't hesitate to ask for help from an expert when you are unsure about something. They should give you some ideas and tips specific to your situation.

Leave some time between the delivery and installation (at least 48 hours). This duration allows the vinyl to adapt to the temperature and humidity of your house, reducing the risk of shrinking and expanding vinyl tiles and planks. This is a small but important step that can protect your layout and its spacing.

Get the planks and tiles out of the boxes and lay them out on the floor. Check the pattern and make sure they have the right mix and match.

Vinyl flooring can only mimic the look of natural stone or wood tiles when its pattern isn't repeated. Your house will have a more seamless look if the colors you choose match those of nearby rooms.

Pre-cut the planks based on your pattern layout and your room's measurements. Use shims and spacers to create enough room between planks. The reason is that they tend to expand or shrink when the temperature changes and you don’t want to fix those gaps later. Water from mops for Vinyl floors  can get in and ruin the whole thing.
